In December 2021, the members of Unity Club visited the elderly widows & widowers (Intwaza) who live in Impinganzima hostels in Huye, Bugesera, Nyanza & Rusizi Districts to celebrate together and wish them a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2022. The Unity Club members sent them gifts that include attire, bedsheets, and many more.
Unity Club has been partnering with AVEGA in looking after the elderly Intwaza to make them regain hope for life, then it helps them in their old age.
Every year, the members of Unity Club pay a visit and have fun with Intwaza by celebrating Christmas and the new year. Sadly, last year this activity didn’t happen due to Covid-19 pandemic.
During the events, Intwaza showed that they gleamed for both the visit paid to them as well as the gifts they received from the members of Unity club, and mostly; they expressed their gratitude to the Chairperson of Unity Club, Her Excellency Jeannette Kagame who always think of their well-being, and gave her a gift.
Intwaza Mutegaraba Venansiya, who lives in the Impinganzima hostel in Huye district, witnessed how her life changed for the better after reaching this hostel.
Intwaza Mutegaraba disclosed,” Before joining this Impinganzima home I lived a lonely life, I couldn’t even eat due to sadness. Nevertheless, after arriving here, I learned that I was not the only one that the genocide made widowed, I find the ones who solace me, and I am now enjoying my old age.”
Opening the activity of visiting Intwaza on December 15, 2021, in Impinganzima hostel in Huye district, the 1st Vice Chairperson of Unity Club Intwararumuri, Hon. Marie-Solange Kayisire expressed her gratitude to the partners including AVEGA and others and insisted that the important history of Intwaza should be safeguarded as well as set measures of how they can be referred to so that they leave us that heritage.
