Rwandans are used to that the month of October of each year is dedicated to promoting unity and reconciliation activities in the entire country.
For this reason, the theme of campaigning unity and reconciliation month of the year 2020 was “Dufatanyije twubake u Rwanda ruzira amacakubiri n’ivangura” loosely translated as, “Inclusively, let’s build Rwanda which is free of division ideology”
The activities of the month dedicated to promoting unity and reconciliation intend to give the opportunity to Rwandans to celebrate the achievements made in unity and reconciliation, and to analyze together whatever may ignite divisions where they live and work, then they fight against it together and take measures of fostering unity and reconciliation. Taking into consideration the covid-19 measures set to prevent its spread, meetings, messages, and more activities were only possible virtually.
Through the Radio and TV shows prepared by the National Unity and Reconciliation commission, Unity Club members spread the messages on various topics. On 4th October 2020, on Rwanda television held a conversation which showcased Unity Awards to the guardians of covenant. The invited guests were; Mme Regine IYAMUREMYE, the executive secretary of Unity Club and Fidele NDAYISABA, the executive secretary of the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission.
Mme Regine IYAMUREMYE centered on the importance of appreciating and prizing the guardians of covenant by clarifying that the programme of rewarding the guardians of covenant was put in place for giving respect to them and making their feats get around.
She said, “The activity of selecting guardians of covenant aims at appreciating their extraordinary acts, making them get around and encouraging Rwandans; mostly the youth, to stand up for the good by referring to the exploits of theirs.”
In this broadcast, Fidele NDAYISABA, the executive secretary of the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission clarified that the guardian of covenant may be Rwandan or foreign nationals.
He said, “The guardian of covenant is a Rwandan or foreigner who has been and keeps being characterized by good deeds which encourage the unity of Rwandans as well as keeping the alliance of Rwandanism unbreakable.”
Among other discussions, presented in the month of October prioritizing unity and reconciliation, include the one which took place on 25th October 2020, with the main theme “Ndi Umunyarwanda: the main shared relationship among Rwandans.”
Valerie NYIRAHABINEZA, the member of Unity Club Intwararumuri who participated in that discussion, emphasized that “Ndi Umunyarwanda” is the most shared relationship among Rwandans. She insisted “Ndi Umunyarwanda” is our most shared relationship; accordingly, it will enable us to attain the Rwanda which is free of divisions and genocide ideology.”
